Behold Your God

By freedom4real · Comments (0)
Friday, December 25th, 2009

Another Christmas has come and almost gone (It’s getting close to midnight as I write this.) Before it slips away, I feel compelled to share something that has dominated my thoughts all week.

Last Sunday I participated in the annual Messiah sing-along held locally here at Bates College. This is an opportunity for anyone who wants to, to be able to sing as a choir for the chorus sections and listen as an audience for the solo and instrumental sections of the Christmas portion of  Handel’s Messiah Oratorio. This was my second time experiencing this event, and it once again had a strong impact on me.

the opening words to the entire Oratorio are from Isaiah Chapter 40: “Comfort ye, comfort ye my people!” The selected scriptures go on to reveal what this comforting message is all about – that a Savior will be revealed to all the world to reconcile people to God. And that Savior is Jesus Christ the Lord.

This year, one section really stood out to me. The verse is from Isaiah 40:9 “O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion, get thee up into the high mountain! O thou that tellest good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up thy voice with strength! Lift it up, be not afraid! Say unto the cities of Judah, ‘Behold your God!’”

In a time when our culture recognizes Peace and Good Will as the center of Christmas, but keeps Jesus tucked safely away in his manger nestled in the heart of a sweet folklore story, I want to look upon that manger scene, and always remember these words: “Behold, your God!!” That’s who Jesus was and is, much more than a sweet little baby, much more than a wise and good teacher, much more than a motivating leader… He was and is “Emanuel” which means “God with us”.

So I am compelled on this Christmas day, to “get myself up into the high mountain”, to a place where I can broadcast the good news. I am compelled to say with Isaiah “Comfort ye, my people! Behold your God!”

Merry Christmas, and God bless you all! (Carol clark, Sam’s wife)

A Baby is Born That Changed Everything

By sam · Comments (0)
Thursday, December 24th, 2009

At our Christmas Eve Service tonight, a woman sang a song that really touched all of us. How would we know that 1 Baby would change everything for ever and ever.

Millions of people around the world today, 2000 years later are celebrating the Birth of Christ.

Our calendars are based on the chronological calender of Before Christ and After…

Lives of millions and millions have been changed and saved due to this one baby. A baby born in a manger so long ago that is still as close to our hearts as it was to the shepards who witnessed it so long ago.

The Great I Am came to save you and me.

My wife and I went out eat after the service and we saw a family celebrating the togetherness of the season. Is it not the people getting together that means so much at christmas? If there is peace in your family then these gatherings are awesome. For years I sought and longed for these gatherings, but they have not happened much as I have 2 Jehovah Witnesses in my family including my Mother. Then 2 other members are thousands of miles away and getting together at Christmas is just not important for them.

Anyways, this family that we saw was just having a great time and we noticed that a baby was with them an apparently asleep even though the noice of this family rose with laughter and love.

When they got ready to leave, the baby woke and I immediately thought about the message at church and the baby that changed everything. I struck up a conversation with the mother of the baby, and she invited us over to see this 2 week old baby. And we all agreed that a baby changes everything in our own lives, but baby Jesus changed the lives of millions and millions of people.

Thanksgiving Vs. Black Friday…Who Wins?

By sam · Comments (0)
Friday, November 27th, 2009

Well it is just about the end of Thanksgiving and the beginning of Black Friday. Is there any greater contrast of days that fall back to back like these on our calender? I don’t think so.

Today was one of the best days this year. Today was Thanksgiving. Today I realized that this has become my favorite holiday. It took me 44 years to pick a winner, and I am picking Thanksgiving as the best holiday of the year.

Why?

Each Year for the past…umm..15 years I have gone down to my Dad’s and Step-moms beautiful old farmhouse in Shapliegh Maine. The house brims with stlye and character from the moment  you pull into the driveway. When you walk in you see one of the most beautiful cast iron stoves on the planet as the dominating feature of the kitchen/dinning area.

The smells of the cooking food is just amazing….

The love that was flowing in the house as we gathered was amazing. Love filled the room, laughter, conversation, hugs, and smiles all gave way to Thanks and blessings. We are blessed to have the family we do. We have gathered year after year and for some reason this year was so peaceful and wonderful. 11 of us gathered around the table and enjoyed each other and a boutiful supply of food.

We talked and shared stories as we ate and smiles and laughter and joy dominated the air that we breathed.

In about 34 minutes from now as I write this the clock will strike midnight and the end of Thanksgiving and the beginning of Black Friday. The Biggest and baddest self indulging shopping day of the year. People are already there I am sure. Lined up at the doors ready to get the deal of the century. I am sure many gave up their time to be with their family so they could secure their spot in line to make sure they were one of the first people through the door to snatch up the $199 Computer system, or the Flip Camera for only $99.00 but only for the first 100 people.

No worries about who got what for Christmas and I hope she likes it and man look at what he got…Blah Blah Blah…all the pressures of Christmas and tension around shopping has replaced the real reason for the season–The Birth of Our Savior has been forgetten and removed from much of society. It has been replaced by the insanity of Black Friday and the Now Savage Frenzy of millions of people who are right now lining the parking lots of best buys and many other stores ready to litterally KILL to get into the stores to get one of only 5 laptops at best buy that will be available for only $197.00…People will die again this year as they rage and race and trample anyone in their way.

Scratch That…I just looked up online and here is the deals at best buy on Black Friday Hot off the press.

Best Buy Black Friday deals are available now.  Today, Best Buy allowed Black Friday bargain hunters to purchase special Black Friday doorbuster deals early online.  Tomorrow, stores open at 5:00 am and locations are going to hand out tickets to those waiting to enter the Best Buy location starting around 3:00 am, at their discretion.  Then, shoppers have free reign on the Best Buy Black Friday deals.

What are the best Best Buy Black Friday deals?

$197 HP Laptop

$399.99 Sony Vaio

$999.99 46″ Samsung TV

$34.99 select video games, including Madden games

$299.99 Dynex 32″ TV

$299.99 PS3 120GB Hard Drive

$49.99 Insignia 10 mp Digital camera

All of the doorbusters EXCEPT THE $197 HP LAPTOP are available online right now.  There are limited quantities of the $197 laptop, but each store will have a minimum of 5 laptops.  Only 1 laptop per customer can be purchased.

I am sure people have been at the best buys all day today as we gathered at the table to share a meal, many others were in their sleeping bags and completely missed Thanksgiving so they could get the 46″ Samsung Tv For Only 999…or the HP Laptop for only $197.00

Let’s take a look at a few videos from previous years..

This man could not be saved..

People Giving Thanks And Sharing a Meal VS Insane people siting out in the cold for 2 days so they can be first inline for a PSP3?

What is going on here?

The Bible Calls It Covetousness…

Jeremiah 22:17 says… “Yet your eyes and your heart are for nothing but your covetousness, For shedding innoncent Blood.

Luke 12:15 says…”And he(Jesus) said to them, Take Heed and beware of Covetousness, for ones life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.

Romans 7:7 Says…”What shall we day then? Is the law sin? Certianally Not! On the Contray, I would not have know sin except through the law, for I would not have known Covetousness unless the law had said, “You Shall Not Covet.”

Ephesians 5:2-3…ANd Walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given himself for us, as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-Smelling Aroma. But fornication and all uncleannes or covetousness, let it not even be named among you.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

The last of the Ten Commandments says…You shall not covet your neighbors house;you shall not covet your neighbors wife, …

So millions and millions are right now flocking to the stores with the faded memory of Thanksgiving quickly seeping out of their minds and it is being replaced by Covetousness.

I won’t be joining them, as a matter of fact my wife wants to seed the money where it is needed…So does my step-mom. They are tired of the Christmas we have created here in America.

The Stark Contrast of the Message Of Christ Vs The Message of Satan…One is Day and light, the other is darkness and evil…

Thanksgiving is beautiful and lovely…Black Friday is Frantic and insane…

Thanksgiving brings people together in blessings and love…Black Friday brings anger, greed, fights and even Death.

Humm..Which one wins?  If you belong to Christ than it is thanksgiving, if you belong to the World, Black Friday wins…

The Foundation of The Christian Faith

By sam · Comments (1)
Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Today we held a memorial service at our church for an amazing 18 year old man who was killed in a car crash 6 days ago.

This young man, Max Allen was the rock of our youth ministry at the vineyard and he will be sorely missed.

The service or memorial was a celebration of all the wonderful things he brought to his family, friends and community. He was loved and cherish by many people and it is very sad that he is not with us anymore.

Max was very creative and designed the picture you see below for the upcoming Christmas party

maxdesign But as our pastor stated, Max is well. Max has no more questions. He has gone on to be with our Lord and Savior…Our God.

This is the foundation of our Christian Faith. That when we die, we will live eternally with our God. This is the message and the ultimate message of the bible. Jesus came and bridged the gap so our sin would be forgiven and we, by the grace of God will go on and have life eternal.

Without this belief, our faith is nothing. This is the Rock upon which we stand.

Although the pain in our church, and especially the family and the youth, is difficult right now, the unity I witnessed today and what has been displayed over the past 6 days is quite amazing.

My daughter was close to Max as were many other teens. We have close to 100 teens in our youth ministry and all of them were touched by Max one way or another. Their strength and resolve through this time has been remarkable as we older adults have witness faith at another level through our teens.

Also through this time, more and more, I am beginning to really value time as the precious commodity it is.

No one knows if christianfaithcrossthey shall have another day here. Most of us take so much for granted. Christians and non-Christians. The truth is time on earth is very very short and very precious. Let us not waste another day…As our pastor pointed out, LIVE…LIVE WELL…Max did. Max lived live to the fullest and he taught many of us just this aspect. Max was different and not afraid to stand out and be counted…he was willing to take risk and he loved the Lord.

Max…Although I did not know you well personally, I look forward to getting to know you on the day that I come home to be with the Lord.

Max, You are loved down here by many…as many said, you will be missed dearly.

Durham teen killed in crash

By Daniel Hartill, Staff Writer

Published: Nov 15, 2009 12:00 am

DURHAM — An 18-year-old college student from Durham is believed to have been killed Friday in a fiery crash.

A combination of speed and driver distraction likely caused Maxwell Allen to swerve on Quaker Meeting House Road, about a half-mile south of Route 136, State Police Trooper Tyler Stevenson said. Allen’s 1999 Dodge Stratus veered into the oncoming lane and swerved back to the right, where it crossed the road and struck a power pole.

The force split that pole and two others.

By the time police reached the scene, shortly after the 8:20 p.m. emergency call, the car was engulfed in flames.  The extraordinary damage to the vehicle left several questions a day later, including the certain identity of the victim, Stevenson said.

“The investigation is leading us to believe (it was) Allen (who) was killed,”  Stevenson said. There were no passengers.

News of the tragedy moved quickly among Allen’s friends, including many teens who belonged to the youth ministry at the Pathway Vineyard Church in Lewiston.

Less than two hours after the crash, youth leader Kyle Gabri was notified.

“It was shocking,” Gabri said. About the same time he was told, leaders from the church reached out to Maxwell’s parents, John and Jill, and his older brother, John Jr.

“As a congregation, we stand 100 percent behind each other,” Gabri said.

By Saturday afternoon, at least 30 teens had gathered at the Foss Road church for a prayer session.

“We wanted to give the teens a chance to mourn and talk,” Gabri said. Reactions ran from hysterical to stoic as the youths dealt with the death of someone they knew.

Maxwell was known as a person who had a dry sense of humor that he shared freely. He even performed a stand-up routine at religious retreats.

“He was very, very funny,” Gabri said. “He was really loving and really honest.”

During the week, he studied media at Southern Maine Community College. On nights and weekends, he was taking on more work for the youth ministry. He often ran sound equipment during youth meetings and had designed a flier for an upcoming Christmas show.

“We were giving him more leadership opportunities,” Gabri said. His hope was to become a leader within the group.

Gabri and the teenagers found solace in their faith, he said.

“We believe that when you die you go to a better place,” he said. “He’s with the Lord at this point.”

Lord I Pray…With These Hands, With These Hand

By sam · Comments (0)
Saturday, November 7th, 2009

One of the most horrific days of our US history happened on Sept 11th, 2001. This is the day we saw the twin towers, the symbols of strength and the symbols of New York city, come down before our very eyes live on T.V.

No one will ever forget that day, at least that is my hope. Inside of every disaster is the hands of God at work. Our Country pulled together as one and it was one of the most powerful times to be alive here in the US that I have ever experienced. Everything that seemed important, melted away for a while as we all reflected on what had just happened to us. I believe God gave us a chance to turn to him for the answers at that time and many did come back to God looking for answers and comfort.

In the midst of this tragedy, things that divided us were removed from the equation and instead of being a country that is red states and blue states, we became one state and one nation under god. Isn’t that how God had designed it to be?

Since then we have moved back into our old ways and the speed of ungodliness has rapidly grown here in the US and around the world. I feel that 9/11 was a call from God to us to come back to him and rally around the goodness that God has for you and me.

Watching our government at work and our people responding to them, we see more division today then ever. It rolls on and on and it is really sad to see. The health care reform bill just goes to show we have fallen back into the days of massive division in our country. The video link below just goes to show how divided and angry people are and remain.  Just click on the picture to see where we are today.

protesters

It is really really sad to see how separated we have become. Didn’t we see the opportunity that 9/11 brought to our country? Apparently not. God’s plan will continue to unfold as only God knows.

This being said, my heart still cries for the unity that we saw on 9/11. I will never forget the people rallying as one people and the incredible power behind this unity.

The old adage, Together we stand, divided we fall never held truer in my life in the dark contrast of the protesting going on in the town hall meetings that occured this summer and now the latest health care reform bill that has exploded into what you see in this video.

The last few days I have continuously been humming a song from the days of 9/11 .

There was a benefit concert to raise money after 9/11 and all of the world was watching. There was an artist that wrote a song for this event and that song continues to play out in my head recently. It is a cry out to God…It is about being one with God as a people and it was sung by Bruce Springsteen.

Enjoy the song below and may it help you remove the division of your heart and show you that we a people can gather around Our God And Savior whom we call LORD…that all things are possible and there is great comfort and joy in our Lord.

But the fact remains and the days grows darker as God is constantly being removed from the daily lives of our country.

The End times are going to happen the way God has said whether you are on board with his plan or not. But you can choose to worship our Lord with These hands..

Marriage is Preserved In Maine

By sam · Comments (0)
Thursday, November 5th, 2009

On Tuesday Nov 3rd the whole country was watching Maine to see if the Gay Marriage law that was secretly passed by the Maine legislature early in this year would stay in place.

It was a battle and early on it looked as if the gay marriage law to allow gays to get married would stay in place. But later in the evening the tide swung to the Yes side which said that we wanted the law overturned and we wanted to preserve marriage as between one man and one woman.

I am happy to report that this law was repealed and the word of God was upheld against the attack against God did not stand. Our God is able and capable and once again he showed it as his people came out to the polls in record numbers in one of the most liberal states in the united states.

A typical off year for elections brings out about 35% of the registered voters, but this year we broke all records and had close to a 60% turnout at the polls. Thanks to all those who got out and voted to NOT allow Gays to marry and rip apart what God designed.
