Luke 8:21-39
He remarked, “My Mother and my brothers are all those who her the message of God and Obey it.”
One day about that time, as he and his disciples were out in a boat, he suggested that they cross to the other side of the lake. On the way across he lay down for a nap, and while he was sleeping the wind began to rise. A fierce storm developed that threatened to swamp them, and they were In real danger.
They rushed over and woke him up.
“Master, Master, we are sinking!” They screamed.
So he spoke to the storm: “Quiet down,” he said, and the wind and the waves subsided and all was calm! Then he asked them, “Where is Your Faith?”
And they were filled with awe and fear of him and said to one another, “Who is this man, that even the winds and waves obey him?”
So they arrived at the other side, in the Gerasene country across from the lake from Galilee. As he was climbing out of the boat a man from the city or Gardara came to meet him, a man who had been demon-possessed for a long time. Homeless and naked, he lived in a cemetery among the tombs. As soon as he saw Jesus he shrieked and fell to the ground before him, screaming, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son Of God Most High? Please I beg you, oh, don’t’ torment me!”
For Jesus was already commanding the demon to leave him. This demon had often taken control of the man so that even when shackled with chains he simply broke them and rushed out into the desert, completely under the demon’s power. “What is your name?” Jesus asked the demon. “Legion,” they replied—for the man was filled with thousands of them! They kept begging him not to order them into the Bottomless Pit.
A herd of pigs was feeding on the mountainside nearby, and the demons pled with him to let them enter into the pigs. And Jesus said they could. So they left the man and went into the pigs, and immediately the whole herd rushed down the mountainside and fell over a cliff into the lake below, where they drowned. The herdsmen rushed away to the nearby city, spreading the news as they ran.
Soon a crowd came out to see for themselves what had happened and saw the man who had been demon-possessed sitting quietly at Jesus’ feet, clothed and sane! And the whole crowd was badly frightened. Then those who had seen it happen told how the demon-possessed man had been healed. And everyone begged Jesus to go away and leave them alone (for a deep wave of fear had swept over them.) So he returned to the boat and left, crossing back to the other side of the lake.
Sam’s Response.
The story above has a very interesting twist at the end. Jesus comes onto the scene in a place where he is obviously not known at that time.
The Word of God and the Speaking of Jesus was so powerful that these demons called Legion were immediately in great fear of Jesus. They know that he was the Son of God and they were scared.
After the great work Jesus does, all the town folk run up to see what has happened.
And Wham…they fear Jesus and do not understand what he did. So they begged him to leave.
The fear of the unknown effects everyone of us. There are many times in life when we have no idea where we are going or “What” is going to happen.
We conjure up images and expectations based on ignorance.
Non-believers have no desire to worship God because they do not know the power of God’s Word.
Through our belief and constant growing in our faith, we can yield the same power of Jesus and unleash a fury against the evil one of this world. Jesus said we could. You either believe it or you don’t’. We often hear in church, that some people say, “Well that was when Jesus was here and that power is for Jesus.
This is NOT scripturally true. If you read the bible and look in his word, he says he will send another, a comforter, the Holy Spirit, who will guide us into all truth.
Where is my faith?
It is either moving away from God or towards God.
The scary part for believers is their lack of Faith, Lack of commitment to God. Many want pieces and blessings from God, but they are not willing to let go of what they have and surrender fully to the Lord.
This is NOT an easy request, and Jesus knew this to be true. He said the Gates to Heaven are Narrow and many believers will “Fall off the path” in the end times. They will be tricked into other sects and will buy into the enemies plan.
Smith Wigglesworth says on today’s Daily Devotion on page 72, “It is important that we have a foundational truth, something greater than ourselves, on which to rest.”
What Truth are you standing on?
Are you believing on how God looks at us?
Are you seeking and you don’t know about the Word of God and you have a warped image from the lies of this world and what they have told you about Jesus?
All Truth, All Wisdom, All Guidance is within the pages of the Bible.
Faith and Fear can not co-exist together.
I have watched the fear leave my wife over the last 4 years. She has stepped up her faith and trusted God and God has removed many fears and thoughts that do not honor God.
Yes, we do need to fear his wrath and follow the commandments, But that is a healthy fear and keeps our feet closely planted and rooted in the Word of God, Not is this World’s distorted truth.
I would love to hear from you, so please do post a response.
May God Bless Your Day and fill Your Heart With Joy and Peace.
Sam
