Psalms 51: Coming to A Place Where God Can Work In You

» by sam in: Our Thoughts

So often people are asking and questioning about "Why is God not doing this or that" in my life?

In Psalms 51 we find David, broken before God. He comes to a place where he is pleading with God to forgive and wash away his sins. David knows he has sinned and is willing to accept, admit and come before the Lord.

Jacob at the JordanHe says in Psalms 51:16-17; "You don't want penance, if you did, how gladly I would do it! You aren't interested in offerings burned before you on the altar. It is a broken spirit you want—remorse and penitence. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not ignore.

Often we wrestle with things within this world and we are fighting our way to get our way. I have lived my life trying to do this on my own and wrestling with this world. How difficult and unfulfillable time I had doing it that way.

Also, as a man of God, learning and growing in Christ, I have wondered why at times things were NOT going a certain way.

God wants you to come to a place where HE can work in you. As stated above, REPENT before the Lord!  He knows all the sins and ways that you have walked.

For God to work in you, he wants you to surrender and turn it over to him…trust him…do not wrestle with God. Jacob finally got to a point where he had to let everything go.

When holding onto the things of this world, we never let go until we have to… In Genesis 32 we see Jacob heading off to meet his brother whom he had deceived by basically stealing his brother's inheritance…Jacob had deceived many throughout his life and he was now having some encounters with God through this time when he was heading off to meet his brother….During this journey, he was camping one night and we pick up the story in Gen:32 vs 22…

But during the night he got up and wakened his two wives and his two concubines and eleven children, and took them across the Jordan River at the Jabbok ford, then returned again to the camp and was there alone; and a Man wrestled with him until dawn. And when the Man saw that he couldn't win the match, he struck Jacob's hip, and knocked it out of joint at the socket.

Then the Man said "Let me go, for it is dawn." But Jacob panted, "I will not let you go until you bless me."

"What is your name?" the Man asked.

"Jacob," was the reply.

"it isn't anymore!" the Man told him. "It is Israel—one who has power with God. Because you have been strong with God, you shall prevail with men."

Jacob was brought to a place, alone with God where he spent the night wrestling with him, and God touched him and "broke" his hip…Still in his brokenness, Jacob held onto God…Coming to a Place where God could work with Jacob….And GOD DID!
